Navalny was released from policeā€

As UNIAN reported earlier, protest rallies titled "He's not our tsar" and set up by supporters of the Russian opposition's Alexei Navalny, launched across Russian cities on Sunday, May 5.

He was absent during Putin's low-key presidential campaign but has never been publicly disowned by his mentor, to whom he remains resolutely loyal.Sergei Shoigu has been behind the modernisation of the Russian army - most recently associated with the "success" of the Russian military campaign in Syria.Defence minister since 2012, Shoigu is one of the rare members of Putin's inner circle not to belong to the "clan" that surrounded him when he was working in the Saint Petersburg city administration. The 62-year-old hails from Siberia's Tuva region and proved himself a successful manager while heading the emergencies ministry for nearly 20 years, which he radically reformed.

Moscow police said about 300 people were detained in the capital, state news agencies said, and there was no official countrywide tally.

"At the rally in Moscow, people in the crowd were seen holding up banners saying "I've had enough" and "I am against corruption", chanting "Putin is a thief" and "away with the czar". "All in all, 122 people detained for 48 hours remain at police stations, majority were violating public order already after the unsanctioned rally, trying to blockade traffic in Moscow streets and resisting law enforcement officers", sources from the Council said.

Media reports said the number of protesters in Moscow was in the thousands.

Navalny said he had been charged with organising an unsanctioned meeting and with disobeying the police.

"I have the feeling that people are gathering just to let off steam and that nothing will change", said the 31-year-old man called Alexander, who declined to give his surname. Images from the Moscow protest showed pro-Kremlin Cossacks beating protesters with leather whips.

The four assists Monday night are the only points the trio has delivered in four losses. "I'm going to be better Wednesday". And when you're blowing five or six goals past the opposition netminder, that's hardly a so-called goalie win .

Such rules provide greater leeway for the use of lethal force than those governing law enforcement practices. For more than a decade the group has tightly controlled Gaza, quashing dissent.

Why are protesters taking to the streets? . In the city of Yekaterinburg, around 1,500 km (900 miles) east of Moscow, a Reuters reporter saw over 1,000 people protesting and shouting anti-Putin slogans.

The 65-year-old has governed Russian Federation for 18 years, serving six years as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012 and the rest as President. Putin has dismissed Navalny, who was barred from running in the presidential election on what he said was a trumped-up pretext, as a troublemaker bent on sowing chaos on behalf of Washington.

Finance minister from 2000 until Medvedev sacked him in 2011, Kudrin never strayed far from politics.

Putin is due to be inaugurated on Monday in a Kremlin ceremony heavy on pomp and circumstance.

Ahead of the protests, supporters of Navalny were detained in six Russian cities, being held on charges of violating public assembly laws and resisting arrest.

However, European observers said there had been no real choice in the election, and complained of unfair pressure on critical voices.

Critics like Navalny accuse Putin of overseeing a corrupt authoritarian system, while the financial well-being of millions of Russians continues to deteriorate.
