The country's parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on October 20.

Police told reporters in Kabul that the Indians and their Afghan driver were travelling to a government-run power station in a mini-bus when unknown gunmen abducted them. Confirming the abduction, an MEA spokesperson said, "We are aware of the abduction of Indian nationals from Baghlan province in Afghanistan". The external affairs ministry said it was in touch with Afghan authorities to ascertain the details of the incident.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Several media reports indicate that the Afghan driver of the engineers is also missing.

Baghlan provincial council have linked the incident to the Taliban, who have not yet commented, reported the Afghanistan based news channel.
