Zinedine Zidane quits as Real Madrid manager after third Champions League crown

Zinedine Zidane quits as Real Madrid manager after third Champions League crown”

In January this year, Zidane confirmed he signed a contract extension at Real to keep him at the club until 2020 but just a month later said "when I feel there is nothing more to give, I'll walk away".

"The decision was first to Florentino, then to the squad it was a odd decision but an important moment, it had to be done for everybody". "What I think this team needs is to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology".

Zidane's retirement as a Real Madrid player in 2006 also came as a surprise, when the then 33-year-old made a decision to hang up his boots in the aftermath of that year's World Cup final despite having another year on his club contract.

"That's why I chose to take this decision".

At the press conference, Zidane said: "This is my decision. I would have liked to convince him [to stay] but I know how he is".

Real Madrid also won the La Liga title under Zidane in his second season.

"It's not goodbye, it's 'au revoir' meaning he could one day come back to Madrid", Karembeu said.

UK's Former Culture Secretary Has Died At Age 70
Former prime minister Gordon Brown said Dame Tessa would be remembered for her "courage, strength and compassion for others". Having pushed the British government to bid for the Olympics, her joy on securing the games for London was short-lived.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is reportedly very keen on the Argentinian, who even has the DNA to take over at Real Madrid - admitting recently he would rather work on his farm in Argentina than manage Barcelona. "I will be here close to this club all my life".

Zidane spoke little about his future but said he is not immediately looking to coach another club. I want to thank the fans - they've always backed me as a manager and as a player.

He criticised Zidane for leaving him out of the Champions League final starting 11.

Zidane, 45, on Saturday became the first coach to win three consecutive Champions League titles when he oversaw Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Liverpool.

Marcelo, one of the oldest playrs in the Real Madrid squad, wrote, "Zizou, I have learnt a lot by your side".

The bombshell decision came 12 years after another stunning blow from Zidane brought a controversial close to the midfielder´s worldwide career.
