Amazon to block Aus shoppers from United States website

Amazon to block Aus shoppers from United States website”

We have taken this step to provide our customers with continued access to worldwide selection and allow us to remain compliant with the law which requires us to collect and remit GST on products sold on Amazon sites that are shipped from overseas.

From that date, Australia will impose a 10 percent consumption tax on online retailers for goods bought from overseas sites and shipped to Australia.

Australian shoppers using Amazon's worldwide site will be unable to place orders, with the retail giant stopping shipping due to new GST rules.

From July 1, Amazon will redirect local shoppers trying to visit the likes of Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk to its much smaller Australian site, thwarting those who enjoy the lower prices offered overseas.

The GST is set to come into effect on July 1, this year, when Amazon also plans to enforce the geo-fencing of Australian users to their local store. The tax now only applies to purchases above AU$1,000 ($757).

'Amazon Global Store will allow Australian customers to shop on Amazon.com.au for over four million items that were previously only accessible on Amazon.com'.

The Tennis star also claimed on Twitter that she still gets tested twice a week for drugs and anti-doping. Her ranking was protected during maternity leave, enabling her to enter the French Open .

eBay also stated its case against the Bill which applied GST to overseas sales. Hundreds of thousands of customers will lose access to their ebooks on July 1st because Amazon does not allow customers to transfer Kindle purchases from one country to another.

Thankfully, global third-party sellers' storefronts will still be accessible from the Australian Amazon site, although shipping costs on those items will be at the discretion of individual sellers, rather than Amazon itself.

"This isn't an anti-trade move by the Australian government", he said.

In a statement issued to the ABC, Amazon said it regretted the move and the inconvenience to customers accustomed to visiting Amazon's global online stores.

"While we regret any inconvenience this may cause customers, we have had to assess the workability of the legislation as a global business with multiple worldwide sites", an Amazon spokesman said in a statement on Thursday.

The Australian site has more than 60 million products across 23 categories, including toys, books and clothing.
