Kelly Sadler Out After Insensitive Sen. McCain Remark”

John McCain's brain cancer, which triggered widespread backlash.

White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that Sadler had quit, but Conway would not say whether her departure was related to her comments about McCain, claiming she could not comment on personnel issues.

Earlier in May, Sadler cracked a "joke" about Sen John McCain for his opposition to Donald Trump's pick of Gina Haspel as Central Intelligence Agency director saying that it did not matter because "he's dying anyway". John McCain, would still be welcome to work a different job in the Trump administration. Glioblastoma is considered a grade IV tumor, the most malignant of gliomas.

The White House never publicly apologized for Sadler's comments, instead focusing on how the remarks were leaked to the press.

Sadler apologized to the McCain family privately, but McCain's daughter Meghan asked for a public apology.

Kelly Sadler has been let go form the White House. Conway would not comment on why Sadler was ousted from her role as a special assistant to Trump, which involved compiling and disseminating talking points to the administration's allies. This angered Schlapp, who is married to Matt Schlapp, head of the American Conservative Union.

Two unnamed sources told the Daily Beast that Sadler's accusations made Schlapp furious, and shortly after a private staff meeting, she referred to her as a "b*tch".

Sadler's comment spurred an intensive effort inside the West Wing to seek out leakers.

A senior White House official told the New York Times more exits were expected in the coming weeks.

"I am sure this conversation is going to leak, too", she derisively said to her staff, according to people familiar with the meeting, in comments first reported by Axios. "And they should be fired".
